CDOT Public Meeting and Larkspur Town Council Meeting – February 15th

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) I-25 Expansion Project to add lanes to I-25 between Castle Rock and Monument is in the engineering design stage for decision making on how many and what type of additional lanes will be added.  Currently there are two options being presented to the public; 1) Adding one General Purpose lane in each direction and 2) Adding one Express (toll) lane in each direction. Funding for this is coming from the State of Colorado, Douglas County, El Paso County, and Castle Rock as well as the Federal Government. Larkspur has not been asked to contribute as we do not have the financial resources for a substantial contribution.  Money from the Federal Government comes with strings attached which includes the inclusion of toll lanes.  Most of the area residents oppose toll lanes and the City of Colorado Springs and the Town of Larkspur have passed Resolutions opposing them.  CDOT is asking for public comment on General Purpose lanes and Express lanes as well as any other concerns.

CDOT flatly states that without Federal money, improvements to I-25 will not be possible and therefore they are pushing for toll lanes in their design.

A meeting has been scheduled for CDOT to make a presentation to our Town Council at the next Council meeting on February 15th.  This meeting will also allow for public questions to be addressed to the CDOT representatives. The meeting will be held at New Covenant Church located at 77 Perry Park Ave at 6:00 p.m.

As always should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Matt Krimmer, Larkspur Town Manager.
